ABSTRACT

Intestinal duplications are rare developmental abnormalities that may occur anywhere in the gastrointestinal tract. The possibility of a malignant change occurring in these duplications is very low. We present a case of adenocarcinoma arising in a duplication of the cecum. A 41-year-old male patient was admitted because of a palpable abdominal mass. Abdominal computed tomography revealed a 6-cm, peripheral wall-enhanced, round, cystic mass in the cecal area. Excision of the mesenteric mass and a right hemicolectomy was performed. Upon histologic examination, the patient was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma arising in a duplication of the cecum.

ABSTRACT

Cecal Volvulus is an acute surgical emergency. In this condition cecum, terminal ileum and ascending colon on its mesenteric anticlock wise direction from 180 to 360 degrees. The cecal volvulus is caused by a congenital lack of fixation of cecum to retroperitoneum. The usual presentation consists of severe colicky abdominal pain with asymmetric abdominal distension. In this article two cases of cecal volvulus are defined. The first case was a 74 year-old female with sudden abdominal pain and severe abdominal distension subsequent 3 days patient often refers with sever colicky pain and asymmetric abdominal distention. After plain abdominal x-ray and abdominal CT scan, right hemicolectomy was performed. The second case was a 70 year- old female who subsequent 4 days without defecation was affected abdominal pain and distension. Supine and erect abdominal x-ray showed colon hyperairation and air-fluid levels. The gangrenous colon was resected etiology of bowel. Despite of other of obstruction or sigmoid volvulus that sometimes can be treated medically, the treatment of cecal volvulus is always surgery and consisted of cecum and ascending colon resection

ABSTRACT

A 25-year-old man with massive lower gastrointestinal bleeding underwent emergency mesenteric angiography. An actively bleeding lesion was found in the cecum. Right hemicolectomy was performed. Histology revealed a Dieulafoy lesion of the cecum. This is an extremely rare lesion responsible for massive lower GI bleeding.

ABSTRACT

Duplications of the alimentary tract are rare congenital anomalies that may occur at any level from mouth to anus. While the oesophagus and the ileum are the most common sites, duplications of the colon are rare. Two cases of ileocolic intussusceptions in 8-month-old girl and 6-month-old boy who were admitted to our hospital with acute abdomen findings are presented. Intraoperatively, cecal cystic duplications leading intussusception were revealed. Intussusception is one of the most important surgical emergence in infancy and typically, it does not involve a lead point in childhood. Although duplication cyst may act as lead point, the review of literature reveals its rarity.
